Your 8-Day Imperial Cities Tour from Casablanca Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech

Arrive at Marrakech Menara Airport where your driver awaits to greet and assist you with your luggage. You’ll be transferred straight to your riad or hotel, with time to relax and refresh. If your arrival is early, start discovering Marrakech’s vibrant souks, lively squares, and historic medina on an optional guided walk. In the evening, gather with your group for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. Savor traditional Moroccan cuisine and enjoy your first night in the Red City, set in an atmospheric riad or boutique hotel decorated in true Moroccan style.

Day 2:  Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Aït Ben Haddou → Roses Valley → Dades Valley

Your adventure begins after breakfast. Travel through the scenic High Atlas Mountains, winding through the dramatic bends and panoramic viewpoints of the Tizi N’tichka Pass. Pause to stretch your legs and snap photos of snow-capped peaks or colorful remote villages that dot the hillsides.

Arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah. Wander its labyrinthine alleys and ancient towers, soaking in a history that has inspired countless films. Afterward, continue via the fragrant Valley of Roses—famous for its spring blossoms—before settling for the evening in the Dades Valley, amidst dramatic weathered cliffs and green riverbanks. Dinner and overnight in a family-owned guesthouse or authentic Moroccan kasbah, where you can mingle with locals and fellow travelers.

Day 3: Dades Valley → Todra Gorges → Erfoud → Merzouga

After breakfast overlooking Dades’ remarkable rock formations, head towards the sheer Todra Gorges. Take a leisurely walk along the river beneath towering 300m cliffs, observing local life in village gardens and spotting climbers on the rugged walls.

Drive on through the Saharan gate towns of Tinjdad and Touroug, with opportunities to stop in oasis villages for refreshing mint tea or local crafts. Arrive in Erfoud, famous for fossils and juicy dates, where you can browse local shops for unique stone souvenirs. As the landscape flattens into golden sand, reach the edge of the Sahara in Merzouga. Check in at your hotel/riad, savor Berber hospitality, and prepare for your desert escapade.

Day 4: Exploring Merzouga & Erg Chebbi Dunes

Wake early for breakfast then hop into 4×4 vehicles for a morning exploring the deep Sahara. Visit nomadic Berber families living among the dunes and take in wild desert oases. Arrive in Khamlia, a village renowned for its Gnaoua musicians. Enjoy a private performance of hypnotic desert rhythms and sip on sweet mint tea with your hosts.

Later in the day, mount your camel for a trek into the heart of Erg Chebbi as the sun sets and the dunes glow. Arrive at an exclusive desert camp set under starlit skies. Dine on tagines and couscous while listening to Berber drumming and stories around the campfire. Sleep in beautifully decorated tents, enjoying the magical serenity of the endless dunes.

Day 5: Merzouga  → Ouzina → Ramlia → Tafraoute Sidi Ali

After breakfast, journey through some of Morocco’s wildest desert on a portion of the famed Dakar Rally route. Ride off the asphalt, passing through remote villages and lunar-like vistas.

Admire the rock formations and desert trees at a stunning overlook, then visit Taouz and the friendly outpost of Ouzina—both examples of enduring Berber tradition. Continue to Ramlia, where a home-cooked lunch with a village family connects you with authentic local life. As the afternoon warms, wind your way to Tafraoute Sidi Ali, a tranquil oasis known for its mines and striking views. Stay overnight in a Berber guesthouse and enjoy a night under desert stars.

Day 6: Tafraoute Sidi Ali → Zagora → Agdz  → Ouarzazate

Enjoy a hearty breakfast with sunrise views. Cross stony desert plains and reach the storied town of Zagora. Stop for lunch and learn about the city’s role as a historic caravan center.

Continue to Agdz and the lush Draa Valley, lined with palms and ancient mudbrick villages. Visit the famous Tamnougalt Kasbah for an intriguing glimpse of Moroccan defensive architecture and oasis agriculture. Late afternoon, reach Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa.” Check in at your comfortable hotel and stroll the boulevards where movie stars and locals blend seamlessly.

Day 7: Ouarzazate → Atlas Studios → Ounila Valley → Telouet Kasbah → Marrakech

On your final day, visit Ouarzazate’s Atlas Studios, where countless blockbusters were filmed—step behind the scenes of “Lawrence of Arabia” or “Game of Thrones.” Next, journey across the stunning Ounila Valley and discover traditional Berber villages surrounded by red slopes.

Arrive at Telouet Kasbah, a once-grand palace of the El Glaoui family (currently open for exterior visits due to earthquake repairs). After a final valley lunch, cross back to Marrakech via the twisting Tizi N’tichka Pass and arrive by evening, filled with stories and memories.
